Eco-project

Green Thinking - Sustainable Eco-Management 20 May 2022 - 30 June 2022

We are grateful to the Visegrad Fund for the financial support of our project! The 22nd Junior Eco-Expert Project intends to provide opportunity for young people from V4 countries and Austria to meet, get to know and make friends with each other. With the professional programmes, primarily in the field of natural sciences our objective is providing interdisciplinary and experiential forms of training and a unique environmental educational programme in Tokaj, which is the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and its region. The participants come from schoools where environmental thinking and behaviour is promoted and they hear a lot about respecting natural surroundings, and the fact that these resources are limited and their sustainability is of major importance. However, in many cases it is just their theoretical knowledge and to make it more applicable in their everyday lives they need first-hand experience and a wider perspective provided by an international community. That is why students do some recearch work and at the same time they can practice how to behave and socialize with students from foreign countries, how to communicate in English, how to discuss and solve problems. We intend to provide opportunity for participants to work on the most up-to date equipment in our science laboratories. The main issue is to provide opportunity for participants to work together within the frame of the Junior Eco-Expert Project, contributing to its success, to deep professional contacts and personal relationships existing among the partner institutions, widening our students’ prospective and the development of their environmental consciousness.

We intend to improve responsible green thinking and sustainable eco-management. By including a lot of field practice in the programme we provide experience and knowledge students can apply in their home countries and own lives. The participants will be acquainted with the history of the region, present challenges and future plans, e.g: environmental protection, water management, waste-water/sewage management, water preservation, drinking water supply, aspects and perspectives of water tourism, ecological education, a water-power plant, renewable sources. During educational trips and field studies the participants will be acquainted with geographical and geological location of the region, its natural beauty, resources and potentials. Student also find out what environmental measures each of the countries take. Furthermore, they will exchange their experience and suggestions, draw their own conclusions which they will present at the final conference. We live in modern countries which have developed through controlling nature and exploiting its resources. To maintain them we have to take care of natural resources and nature itself. We are part of the natural world, and nature has many things to teach us. As educators of future generations we have to share our findings with young people to make them more consciuos and responsible. As organisers of 22nd Junior Eco-expert Project we would like to focus on aspects of water and sustainable eco-management and how we can make use of that learning for the future. We provide opportunity for observations, experiences and experiments.

The Eco project has been running since 1998. During these years our school has been the host several times. The number of students involved and through them their families have been impacted by the results, and considering the international level of the project the number here is also well into the thousands. We have much expertise how to strengthen awareness of students and staff realize the connection between health and our nature and how to promote a critical thinking and the need to understand the global correlations and how various matters intertwine other elements of life. We have implemented several similar projects. E.g. ERASMUS+ projects: The many faces of water - a holistic approach to the vital element of life; United in Diversity: UNESCO regional heritage within European identity and projects supported by Visegrad Fund: Past, Present and Future of Tokaj Wine Region Historic Cultural Landscape. Good practices of Tokaji Ferenc Secondary School which are primarily in the field of natural sciences with the objective of providing interdisciplinary forms of training and a unique environmental educational programme in Tokaj. The institution’s titles and awards are: - Permanent Eco-school - Excellent Talent Point of Hungary and European Talent Point - Certified Reference Institution and Mentor Institution for Teachers We are dedicated to share these guidelines with all the other participants of Junior Eco-expert Project. We have first-hand experiences and best practice in international contacts and events which we are ready to share in V4 cooperations.

  • Slovakia

Junior Eco-Expert Project has been organised annually for 21 years. It has enabled students to learn about various ecological issues of their respective countries. This year the project will be hosted by Szybinski Secondary school in Cieszyn.

Every year a group of 20 students and two teachers participate in the workshops organised by one of the partner schools: from Yspertal in Austria, Veseli nad Luznici in the Czech Republic, Tokaj in Hungary and Cieszyn, Poland. This year students from Piešťany in Slovakia will also join the project.

One of the objectives of the 21st Junior Eco-Expert Project is to provide the students with more in-depth information on good environmentally - friendly practices in all partner countries and the Cieszyn region. Helping them improve eco-friendly habits in their families and promoting sustainable nature conservation in the region will help educate a conscious generation that strives at preserving and restoring the environment.

The students are going to work in five international groups. Each group will deal with another issue.

Groups.

  1. Protection of biodiversity in the mountainous region.
  2. Mineral resources and impact of their exploitation on the region.
  3. Sustainable exploitation and use of brine.
  4. Protection of water.
  5. Ecological methods of animal keeping.

During the closing ceremony students will present the results of the group work. The students will also present cultural programmes promoting their country, region and school.

The head teachers of the partner schools and representatives of the local authorities from all the partner towns will be invited to the ceremony.

The implementation of the project is possible thanks to the financial support of the International Visegrad Fund and the Cieszyn District Authority.
